Superstar Manny Pacquiao’s world title defence from ‘down under’ when he puts his WBO welterweight title on the line against undefeated number two world-rated contender Jeff Horn will be aired exclusively live on BoxNation. The eight-division world champion and the reigning ‘Fighter of the Decade’ takes on undefeated Australian Horn from the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane next Saturday night. Promoted by Top Rank and Duco Events, "The Battle of Brisbane" is expected to attract 55,000 fans, with Pacquiao fighting in Australia for the first time in his illustrious career.

The 38-year-old Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs), is coming off impressive wins over former champions Jessie Vargas and Timothy Bradley and is now in his third reign as WBO welterweight champion. Horn (16-0-1, 11 KOs), who will be fighting in his hometown of Brisbane, enters this clash having won his last three fights - all in 2016 - against Ali Funeka, Rico Mueller and Randall Bailey inside the distance. The 29-year-old goes into the fight extremely confident and will be looking for the record crowd to spur him on to victory on July 1st against the legendary Filipino.

Pacquiao will have to deal with a home crowd for Horn, who was an Australian Olympian in 2012.

Arum discussed Horn matching up with the Philippine native, per Rafael, "He's a good fighter. Does he beat Manny? Probably not, but he's going to give him a good fight. He has a very pleasing personality."

While Pacquiao famously lost to Floyd Mayweather in a long-awaited clash in 2015, he has returned from a brief retirement and handled Jessie Vargas with relative ease in November.

The 38-year-old, who is the only eight-division world titleholder, will look to replicate that form in July against Horn.

Horn (16-0-1) is a former schoolteacher who first took up fighting to protect himself from bullies. He fought at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and has quickly risen through the ranks as a professional, sitting at No2 in the WBO’s welterweight rankings.

Pacquiao, 38, is the WBO champion in that division and has a 59-6-2 record, while also juggling a career as a senator in the Philippines.

Horn – who is a decade younger – has already been installed as a rank outsider by bookmakers but believes he has what it takes to beat Pacquiao. His trainer, Glenn Rushton, said it would be a “tragedy” if the fight happened anywhere other than Brisbane.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Jeff Horn, billed as "Battle of Brisbane", is a scheduled boxing match for the WBO welterweight championship. The fight is scheduled to take place at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on 2 July 2017.

The bout was initially announced in January 2017. However, by the next month the fight was in doubt. Pacquiao decided to fight Amir Khan in the United Arab Emirates, but the fight fell through. Pacquiao-Khan is now possible to take place in November 2017.

The fight was finalized in April 2017. The fight is financed by the city of Brisbane and the Queensland government. Some in the media have questioned the quality of the match-up.

The fight will be broadcast as a pay-per-view in the fighters' home countries of Australia and the Philippines, with the rights respectively held by Main Event and ABS-CBN.

In the United States, the fight will be aired on ESPN and ESPN Deportes (where, due to the time difference, it will air on the night of 1 July). The fight will mark a return of Top Rank promotions to ESPN; the promotion had previously aired fights on ESPN from 1980 to 1996, and the . It will mark the first time that a Pacquiao bout will air on a non-premium, basic cable channel in the United States (previous Pacquiao fights were largely broadcast via PPV). The event was reported by The Ring to be the first in a larger, two-year contract with ESPN.

The Pacquiao-Horn tussle will also be featuring Irish Olympian Michael Conlan who will fight as a professional for the third time and faces Australian Jarrett Owen. On March 17, 2017, Conlan won his first pro fight, beating US fighter Tim Ibarra by a third round technical knockout at the Madison Square Garden. On May 26, he won another impressive third round TKO over Mexican Alfredo Chanez in Chicago.

“I believe this is the start of a new era in boxing and a changing of the guard,” Horn was quoted by Brian Rodrigues of the International Business Times as stating.

“He (Pacquiao) is getting a bit older and I am still young<” Horn continued. “I am ready to take a shot and I am ready to take it off.” That’s as harsh as saying Pacquiao’s days are numbered. It’s doubtful if though if Pacquiao would reply once he has touched down in Brisbane. Eight division world champion and Philippine senator Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao leaves for Brisbane, Australia Saturday morning from his hometown in General Santos City via a chartered Air Asia Airlines flight together with his wife Jinkee and some 200 of his entourage ahead of his WBO world welterweight title defense against local boy Jeff Horn on July 2 at the 55,000-capacity Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. “Manny has been a pioneer, bringing world title fights to Cowboys Stadium, The Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena and now Suncorp Stadium. We're boxing's version of Lewis & Clark, discovering new markets," said Hall of Fame promoter Arum. "Manny knows who will be the crowd favourite on July 1st, but he can't wait to give Australia and the world a great performance. It's going to be an unbelievable event.” Thank you for viewing update contents, if you like the post, you may share it via facebook, twitter or other social networking tool located at upper left of this page.
