The Filipino young and unblemished record Prince Albert Pagara (26-0, 18KOs) who is currently holding the WBO Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title will battle the Mexico's tough guy Cesar Juarez (17-5, 13KOs) in what would be fireworks on the display for both boxers. Juarez who is said to be not an easy opponent when he fought willingly and toe-to-toe in action with Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire which was far expected as hard battle for the Filipino Flash last December 11, 2015. Juarez once again and will face against one of the Philippines' young fist of the future Albert Pagara.

The camp of Pagara knew that this is a dangerous fight for the lad but they have to test Pagara how matured he was right now. In their weigh-in, Both Pagara and Juarez came in at 121.2 lbs below the super bantamweight limit. This event would be the second time ALA held the event in USA after the Donnie Nietes title fight.

For the co-main event, his older brother Jason Pagara registered 146 lbs vs. Abraham Alvarez who registered 147 lbs for welterweight fight. Albert Pagara, a 22-year-old junior featherweight from Cagayan de Oro City who has slowly risen as a top attraction on ALA Promotions’ Pinoy Pride cards. Pagara (26-0, 18 knockouts) will show what lies beneath his flashy exterior when he faces rugged former title challenger Cesar Juarez on Saturday, July 9 (Sunday Manila time) at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, California. Paraga will have perhaps the biggest test in his career when he faces the granite chinned Juarez, who has seen a brutal fight against Nonito Donaire Jr. last December.

Pagara, the defending champion, tipped the scales at 121.2 pounds on the first attempt. Juarez didn’t quite make weight as easily however, as he needed to cut more weight after the official weigh-ins, before finally hitting the same 121.2 pounds as Pagara, making their 122-pound - 12 round title bout on Saturday night very much official. Albert’s older brother Jason “El Niño” Pagara also made weight, coming in at 146-pounds, while opponent Abraham Alvarez weighed-in at 147-pounds for their 147-pound - 10 round co-main event bout.

"Albert is one of the fighters who’s been under the radar. He’s ranked no. 2 in the world by the WBO and people think he can be the next world champion. But in boxing, the only way you can find out is when they fight challengers who can give them good fights,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer. This fight with Juarez is a high-risk fight. It was a big decision for us and the team. With his ranking on the line, he’s been waiting for a world title shot, but the only way to know if he’s ready is for him to fight a fighter with the caliber of Juarez. Albert wanted this fight. Juarez gave one of the best fights against five-division World Champion Nonito Donaire Jr., so we’re looking forward to a good show. I think this is something that would define Albert as he moves on in his career. I’ve said it before, this is his make or break fight. It’s either he makes it and waits for a world title, or if he doesn’t, then it’s back to the drawing board and that’s really what it’s all about,” said Aldeguer.

Dubbed Pinoy Pride 37: Fists of the Future, the Pagara-Juarez showdown will be the second card in the US being put up by ALA Boxing, a Cebu-based promotional outfit named by the father-and-son tandem of Tony and Michael Aldeguer. Also seeing action underneath the Pagara-Juarez scuffle will be Albert’s elder brother Jason, who clashes with Mexican Abraham Alvarez in a welter war set for ten rounds. Aldeguer is looking forward to a rousing success as he gets ready to do his third promotion on US soil on Sept. 24 with world light-fly king Donnie Nietes returning to the StubHub Center in Carson, a city on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Prince Albert, on the other hand, isn’t at all awed by Juarez who told their final pre-fight press conference “It’s going to be a battle between us on this Saturday night, I feel that I’ll come out on top. I feel that I lost the last fight against Nonito Donaire because I was going through some personal issues and some hardships in my personal life. I want a rematch because I wasn’t healthy in the last fight. As for now, I’m very focused for this fight. I feel a lot better for this fight and I’m ready.”

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer who plans to build on the breakthrough into the highly competitive American boxing scene said, “We’re very happy to be a part of this and making this happen. This is going to be an exciting night because both fighters have something riding on the line for this fight… this is a make or break fight for Albert and I have a feeling that this is going to be a tough fight… winning a world title is the main goal for “Prince” Albert and he knows it’s going to be tough and you’re going to have to face tough fighters like Juarez.”

"We’ve figured out his (Juarez) style; we’re not worried,” the 22-year-old Pagara, who trained extensively in Cebu City and Wild Card Gym in Hollywood under the guidance of Edmund Villamor, told Philboxing in Filipino. The fight card which will also feature Prince Albert Pagara’s elder brother Jason “El Nino” Pagara, ranked No.1 junior welterweight by the WBO who will tangle with Mexico’s Abraham “The Swift” Alvarez will be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN and the coverage tandem of Dyan Castillejo and five division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire. Jason Pagara has a record of 38-2 with 23 knockouts while Alvarez sports a 21-9-1, 10 knockout resume.

Both Jason and Albert have a slight physical edge over their respective opponents which they can depend on. Jason has the advantage in height and reach with a favorable KO rating of 58 percent against Alvarez's 32 percent. In the case of Pagara and Juarez, the 22-year-old Filipino has superior knockout rating of 69 percent against Juarez' 59 percent. But anything can happen in the ring.

Juarez who is best remembered for a brutal turnaround in the second half of his world title fight against Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire who won a lopsided decision anchored on two knockdowns in the fourth round of their title fight in Puerto Rico said “I prepared more than two months in Mexico City. For me it wouldn’t be a surprise to defeat the favored undefeated Pagara. The fight will be very competitive, but the Filipino won’t be able to endure my pace. If my rival comes to fight, it’ll be a classic Mexico vs. Philippines war!”

Juarez said “am better prepared now than I was against Nonito Donaire, whom I’d like to face again. But we are now focused on Pagara. We’re already on weight and waiting until Friday to get on the scale and Saturday to win!” Prince Albert has been cautioned by both Donaire and his trainer/father “Dodong” to work on his defense since Juarez is a strong fighter.

Pagara (26-0, 18 knockouts) and Juarez (17-5, 13 KOs), best remembered for giving “Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire a hell of a fight before losing last December, will tangle in the headliner of Pinoy Pride 37: Fists of the Future at San Mateo Event Center.

Pagara will square off against Juarez at the San Mateo Event Center in California in a bout that will be aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 and ABS-CBN Sports and Action.

  1. The fight between: Pagara vs Juarez that was aired on the filipino channel exclusively deprived the 2 boxers world wide exposures. Promoter of Juarez should have not approve of this exclusive show of the fight. Mexicans will not watch this fight on the Filipino Channel -This is just a PROMOTIONAL EFFORT BY THE FILIPINO CHANNEL TO PROMOTE THEIR OWN T.V. CHANNEL.
