The Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day, is the event we'll going to witness for light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and super bantamweight fighter Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire battle separate foes in front of the Filipino soil. In the main event, Donnie Nietes will fight against Gilberto Parra while Nonito Donaire, Jr will fight against William Prado. This is the first time where we can see boxing action of ALA Promotion in a big stage of Smart Araneta Coliseum. This would bring delight to the boxing Filipino fans in the Philippines and all around the world where there is a Filipino.
In the weigh-in, after both fighters tipped the scales at exactly 108 pounds, they posed before the cameras and did the customary staredown. Parra, the bigger fighter, stuck his face close to Nietes’ and drew jeers from those who came to see the weigh-in. Nietes kept his cool but as they were separated the reigning WBO junior flyweight champion from Bacolod did the slash-throat motion. The 32-year-old Nietes also owns the distinction as the only foreigner to successfully defend his title in Mexico three times against Erik Ramirez, Manuel Vargas, and Mario Rodriguez. The hard-hitting Parra (19-2, 17 KOs) is determined to avenge his compatriots and end Nietes’ seven-year reign.
Nietes is now 32 who is facing his Mexican opponent during the weigh-in at the Green Gate of the Araneta Coliseum made a throat slash gesture. Nietes (31-1-4 win-loss-draw record with 20 knockouts) and Parra (19-2 record with 17 knockouts). The Mexican fighter vows to end Donnie's title reign. He believe that everything has an ending and he will be the one tonight to end Donnie's light flyweight title. Parra is determined to win the title from Nietes. He admire Nietes but he also believe he can win this fight and had have his title as the new champion.
Nietes on the other hand, doesn't respect Parra much since during their stare down after the weight-in, Parra shows some cockiness and Nietes promised that Parra will pay the price. This is the first time where Nietes reacted to the cockiness of Parra as we knew Nietes is a humble and soft spoken man not just in the boxing but also out side his boxing career.
So, what's up for this fight for Donnie Nietes vs Gilberto Para fight. This will be a great fight action for the Pinoy Pride Fighters and as well as for the Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire's comeback fight.
