UPDATE: Mikey Garcia defeated Dejan Zlaticanin via 3rd round KO!
Mikey Garcia won a title in a third division by stopping Dejan Zlaticanin with KO of the year candidate.
Mikey Garcia (35-0, 29 knockouts) attempts to become a three-division world champion when he meets World Boxing Council lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs) at MGM Grand.
“Boxing is for the poor man,” Garcia, 29, said. “A lot of people don’t know what’s going on, but I’ve been able to see it first-hand, and if I can speak out on the behalf of fighters going through problems, I will, because … it’s important to create awareness. Everyone should speak up. Because if people are aware, maybe there can be change.”
Mikey, 29, has only faced a couple of difficult opponents in his career against Orlando Salido and Roman Martinez.
This is only the second fight for Mikey Garcia since returning to the ring July. Garcia defeated Elio Rojas by a 5th round knockout. Before that, he Garcia had missed two and a half years of his career with him and his promoters at Top Rank dealing with promotional issues. Garcia is still young enough and strong enough to dominate in the lightweight class. He could move up in weight in the future to fight at 140. But for now, Mikey is interested in fighting the winner of the Jorge Linares vs. Anthony Crolla 2 fight.
