FIGHT UPDATE: Danny Garcia defeated Samuel Vargas via TKO in round 7

If you were wondering why Danny Garcia's latest fight against Samuel Vargas is a non title fight, maybe, this is just a tune-up fight for him for his next fight against the champ Keith Thurman by next year. Samuel Vargas is not the same caliber with Garcia but he has nothing to lose here. Samuel Vargas has also a good and respectable record as you know it via boxrec.com profile. For Danny Garcia, he shouldn't underestimate his current opponent and he should not take him lightly.

Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) successfully weighed in on Friday at 146.6 pounds for his 10 round non-title bout at welterweight against Samuel Vargas (25-2-1, 13 Kos) for their fight on Saturday night on Spike on Premier Boxing Champions at the Liacouras Center, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Vargas weighed in at 145.7lbs. Garcia’s WBC welterweight title will not be on the line for this fight. This fight is a tune-up for the 28-year-old Garcia to get him ready for a unification fight against WBA champion Keith Thurman next year in March. Garcia is at a point where he doesn’t really need to take any more tune-ops.

Garcia is a good fighter, at worst. As a young man, he has the game of a crafty old veteran, which is not a bad thing at all. He’s smart in the ring. He’s a very modern fighter, a guy who picks and chooses to an extreme degree. Whether it’s actually the case or not, one can easily get the impression that there is very little competitive fire in Garcia.

If Vargas’ (25-2-1, 13 KO) name is familiar, it’s because Errol Spence Jr. demolished him in April of last year. He has a 2013 loss to Pablo Munguia, whose primary occupation is being fed to prospects, and he has zero wins of note. Two of his last four opponents aren’t even in BoxRec’s top-400 for their division and the other two fail to crack the top-150.
