The Brooklyn’s most exciting and talented fighters, WBA Middleweight World Champion Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) will take on former world champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs).
In the co-feature, WBA Featherweight World Champion Jesus Cuellar (27-1, 21 KOs) will face exciting Puerto Rican contender Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo (26-4, 16 KOs). The rest of the stacked undercard features a diverse group of fighters from across the boroughs and regions of New York including Long Island’s Chris Algieri and Joe Smith Jr, Brooklyn’s Yuri Foreman and Heather Hardy, Staten Island’s Marcus Browne, and Queens’ Will Rosinsky.
Former WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin (31-0-1, 22 KOs) will be facing WBA “regular” 160lb champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) on December 5th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, according to news from Dan Rafael. Quillin will need to win his tune-up fight against little known Michael Zerafa (17-1, 9 KOs) in their 10 round fight on September 12th on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from the Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Jacobs recently defeated 35-year-old former WBA junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora in his last fight. Surprisingly, Jacobs was knocked down and hurt by Mora in that fight. If a non-puncher like Mora was able to hurt Jacobs, you can only wonder what a puncher like Quillin could do to him. This fight has early knockout written all over it if Quillin can land something big early in the fight.
Jacobs has defended his title twice in beating Caleb Truax and Mora. Jacobs captured the WBA title with a win over Jarrod Fletcher in September of 2014.
Quillin fought to a 12 round draw against WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee last April. Quillin knocked Lee down twice in the fight. However, Lee came back later in the fight to drop Quillin. After the knockdown, Quillin fought defensively and looked like he didn’t want any part of exchanging with Lee.
Both Jacobs and Quillin are rising stars in arguably boxing’s hottest division, looking to continue climbing a ladder that currently leads to the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. The fight’s promoter, Lou DiBella, called this a “can’t-miss, pick ‘em fight between two of the best middleweights in the world.” Despite being champion, Jacobs comes into the fight as the underdog (+125) while the challenging Quillin is the favorite (-165).
