Fight Update: Ronda Rousey defeated Bethe Correia via KO (Punch)
Ronda Rousey is just hours away from stepping into the cage against Bethe Correia for the sixth defense of her bantamweight title at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. ousey is one of the sport's biggest stars and seeks to settle a personal grudge against the massive underdog in Correia's home country. The co-feature matches a pair of Brazilian legends in Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. This is a war!
Correia earned the title shot by winning each of her three UFC bouts to date. For Rousey, this bout is an opportunity to defend her UFC title for a fifth time. What comes next? Ronda Rousey will return to the Octagon this weekend to take on Brazilian Bethe Correia for the right to be crowned the UFC Women's Bantamweight champion. While the undefeated Rousey heads into the grudge match an overwhelming favourite, Correia will have the home fans behind her with UFC 190 taking place in the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. It would be a great fight after all.
Rousey has proven herself to be the queen of the Octagon, with her unblemished MMA record of 11-0 making her a 1/16 favourite over the 15/2 Correia. Rousey may have had the distraction of Hollywood and the WWE in 2015, but she insists the will not be stopped in defeating the Brazilian in what has become the “most personal fight” of her career after some unsavoury comments from Correia regarding Rousey’s father. Nine of Rousey’s 11 victories have come by submission, and if she takes the fight to the ground you can expect another W added to her record, although the American has promised to prolong the fight to punish Correia. It would really be a great fight.
UFC 190 “Rousey vs. Correia” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will feature a pivotal women’s strawweight clash pitting Nova Uniao export Claudia Gadelha (116) against Jessica Aguilar (116) and a pair of heavyweight tilts, as former Pride Fighting Championships titleholder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (240) meets Stefan Struve (265) and onetime EliteXC champion Antonio Silva (265) faces Soa Palelei (264). The lightweight and bantamweight finals for Season 4 of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” will round out the seven-fight main card: Glaico Franca Moreira (156) vs. Fernando Bruno (155) and Dileno Lopes (135) vs. Reginaldo Vieira (135). Sloppy performance. Wide punches from Rousey in the middle of the ring left her exposed to a well timed bomb to her jaw by a more poised fighter. Gotta give her credit by ditching her ground game to shut up the critics and show she can put you to sleep. My criticism is strictly to embolden another fighter to come out looking to drop that big counter bomb on Rousey's jaw. Easier said than done, I know, but that's where the opening is if you're looking to fight her and not end up going face first yourself.
